Mrs Kermally has joined us while Mrs McAvoy is on maternity leave and her days are Tuesday and Thursday. Mrs McAvoy had a baby boy on 30th January and both are doing well.
Miss Stewart has joined us to replace Mrs Finnigan who has taken up a new post at another school. Miss Stewart works 3.5 days each week and will stay until Miss Cumming returns from her maternity leave, later this session.
Overview of SFL
SFL staff support children at every stage. This can be in or out of class, e.g. co-operative teaching (working with a child or group alongside the class teacher) or withdrawal of an indivividual or group. Although language and maths are the main areas of support, children may also be supported in other curricular areas, or helped in the development of social skills. Support may be long or short-term, depending on need. It may also, at times, be used to support able children who are in need of challenge in a particular curricular area. Support for children with English as an additional language is also an important part of SFL. These children may also be supported by Miss Wallace, our bi-lingual support teacher, who is with us every Monday.

The support room, otherwise known as the Rainbow Room, is now located in the infant corridor in Room 1. Some groups are also taught in the G.P. room/library.
5 Point Scale
This is a voice scale used by SFL. The scale ranges from 1 to 5.

1 - no talking at all
2 - soft voice or whisper
3 - classroom voice (as if speaking out in front of the whole class)
4 - playtime or outside voice
5 - emergency only

A large scale showing this scale is displayed, and staff also have a mini version on a fob. The idea behind this is to give children a colourful, visual reminder of what kind of voice they should be using in various situations, by simply pointing to the appropriate number. Most children respond well to this.
